Hello all,
What a day!
We dropped off the check with the University: http://lockerz.com/s/182645575
We got through a long meeting with the head of the Berkeley colony. Good news is that NO hyenas will be euthanized. More homes have been located and a more stable funding source has been planned out (planned not achieved). There are still some possibilities it may fall through and another meeting is planned for next week. That meeting will be key on the future of the placement of the animals or continue funding of the research. The hyenas will be alive, that is the end goal of what we strive to achieve.
Short of it: We ask you temporally hold off donations. We will know within 2 weeks if more are necessary.
Why? We will not ask for donations unless crucially needed. Thanks to your donations the emergency aspect of the situation has been addressed, but I cannot say that more donations won’t be needed later.
Our donations have bridged the gap between where their funding ended and the new sources have been initiated. The hyenas are currently past the emergency but not out of the woods until we see what the next meetings hold. The show of support from outside people stepping up and donating to save the hyenas sent a VERY clear message to the powers that be- there is a LOT of love and attention given to those hyenas.
Next week we can say more about the situation because more will be known. Thank you for hanging in there with us!
As for our sanctuary, plans continue to progress on it. We may have it done in time to do some good for the colony after all.
We are also on our way to filing as a charitable organization. Our board has been formed and we have some very talented people on it that compliment each other very well. Look forward to updates.
Next week we will update on the status of the colony and future funding. I hope it all goes well and no further fundraising will be necessary.
